Most recent feedback for The Cherry Orchard
“I saw the production of the Cherry Orchard last night and I thought it was one of the most brilliant pieces of theatre I have seen in as long as I can remember – a work of genius! The whole cast was magnificent, hugely talented and I loved every fabulous second. I cried with laughter so many times and was utterly moved by Paul Taylor’s heart-rending melancholy for his/her lost son...only regret that you did not perform to the packed theatre and standing ovation that you richly deserved.” (Bracknell)
“I saw 'The Cherry Orchard' last night in Chatham - terrific fun. Well done to all. We came as part of a scriptwriting course and left as fans. :)” (Chatham)
“I was very impressed with your show last night. I thought it was one of the most amazing productions I have ever seen in the theatre. I wish to thank you all for a brilliant night out.” (Bracknell)
“This was Quick-Change Chekhov. There were several times when I really couldn’t work
out how a costume change had been achieved in seconds – wearing skirts over trousers
was only part of it – perhaps it was Charlotta’s magic?
Having a male Mme Ranyevskaya
was a stroke of genius. It somehow brought out the unworldliness of the character
without losing the pathos (a teacher in the audience to her pupils, ‘It’s very sad,
because she loses her home’). It was an extremely subtle characterisation, and the
voice was perfect, softened rather than higher in pitch.
While I know a bit about
the Yiddish Theatre, Russian vaudeville is new to me; however, I‘ve now done some
research and so this production has added to my general knowledge! It must be the
funniest Chekhov I’ve ever seen. Two moments of many stand out – the exquisite Yasha
(looking very like Simon Williams in ‘Upstairs, Downstairs’) smoking a small cigar
while rejecting Dunyasha and having ideas well above his station, and Varya and Lopakhin
trying ever so hard, and failing, to declare themselves.” (Bracknell)
“Another great proformance and we were all sorry when your tale came to an end. As usual you had us laughing crying and singing with you all. Thank you.” (Middlesbrough)
“All praise to all concerned in this excellent and versatile rendering of the said production. I sincerely trust you will be returning here with future productions. I was riveted with each sentence! Wishing you all every good success.” (Hexham)
